Telstra’s HR strategy is worsening every day
February 23, 2009
It seems like every day brings fresh news of another non-union, non-negotiated ECA being voted down.
The strong voting trend is that more and more ECAs are not approved, with at least twenty-five failing to win staff support in the last three weeks. Telstra HR is not telling staff about these outcomes. This week at least twenty recently released or reissued ECAs are being voted on. Telstra say this backlog is due to a “technical problem” with Telstra’s contracted provider Link Market Services.
Below is a list with details of the thirty-nine Employee Collective Agreements your union knows have been rejected by employees.
While many of the ECAs that have been approved have had voting populations of under forty people, many of the larger offers such as Information Technology, Telstra Business and Network Services (Integrated Network Operations) have not been approved by staff.
What is clear is that Telstra’s ‘divide and conquer’ HR strategy of releasing multiple agreements is becoming unstuck.
Such a strategy will not be possible under new, fairer Industrial Relations laws currently before Parliament.
If you are voting on an ECA next week we urge you to VOTE NO and encourage your colleagues to do the same, and preserve your right to be part of the push for a fair agreement for employees across Telstra.

Got something to say?

Secret Ballot Elections, Telstra “ECA” Style
• 1. Ask everyone how they intend to vote and urge them to vote the way that you want them to.
• 2. Draw up the ‘electoral boundaries’.
-Again ask them how they are going to vote. Once again, urge the voters to vote for you.
• 3. Decide which ‘electorates’ you want to hold the ‘ballot’ and when.
- a good trick is to wait until the ‘voters’ in the electorate are away, too busy or involved in State or National emergency work, and then;
• 4. Hold the ‘election’ but only in a selected few electorates.
-another good trick is to tell people that need to ‘vote’, that they don’t
need to ‘vote’.
• 5. Maintain exclusive control of all ‘tallying’.
-Set the voting method, who is on the roll, the tallying of the votes
-Select who you want to run the ‘ballot’, usually a good mate.
-Make sure that no scutineers are allowed to be present
-no ‘vote’ count needs to be released, how many people voted and which way they ‘voted’, whether people had the chance to ‘vote’ or whether people may have voted more than once.
-Just announce that the ‘vote’ has been a ‘winner’ or a loser for you.
• 6. If it’s a ‘winner’ good but don’t worry if it’s a loser, because;
- if you lose you can redraw the boundaries.
- This way the people ‘vote’ again, and again…………….and again, until hopefully - finally you ‘win’ the ‘election’.
And there you have a rigged election, imagine if they looked after the Federal and State elections!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
